Dear Bay Area Family,

Our God is a sending God! In John 20:21 Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” He sent His disciples out to start the early church, He sends each of us to be missionaries locally and globally, and if you were in church with us this weekend, you heard that today He is sending our Teaching Pastor Pat Linnell to build His Kingdom in a new way.

Several years ago, the Lord birthed in Pat a vision to equip the local church to move its people to acts of grace-centered love that point to the gospel. Thus, the Grace Bomb movement was born. If you’re unfamiliar with Grace Bomb, you can read about it here. Since then, Grace Bomb has taken off! Churches around the country are using this simple, impactful tool to influence their communities for Jesus. A book is in the works, thousands of Grace Bombs have been dropped, and a nonprofit has formed under Pat’s leadership.

After a great deal of prayerful consideration, Pat believes the Lord is telling him that now is the time to focus his efforts fully on growing Grace Bomb and continuing to equip more and more churches to join the movement.

What does this mean for Bay Area? Spiritually, it means we are celebrating that God is using another from within our family to build His church in a unique and powerful way. Pat’s calling is great news for the Kingdom! Practically speaking, it means that as of September 1, 2019, Pat will transition off of full time staff at Bay Area. But he is by no means leaving, and he will continue to be an integral part of our teaching team. Pat has an incredible teaching gift that has impacted so many, and we are blessed that he will continue to be in our teaching rotation. He simply won’t be preaching as often as he has to date, but he and his family will still call Bay Area their church home and be a part of our family.

It’s a big calling, and we are excited for Pat! As you see him in the coming weeks, I encourage you to celebrate with him and support him and his family through prayer and encouragement.

We are grateful to serve a sovereign God who brings us just the right people in the right seasons, and at the same time sends each of us out in His timing to build His Kingdom!

From here to the nations,

Greg St. Cyr
Lead Pastor

Below are a few FAQs about Pat Linnell’s transition to full-time leadership of Grace Bomb.

What is the timeline for Pat's transition?

Pat will transition out of full-time status on staff with Bay Area beginning on September 1, 2019.

What will the teaching rotation look like at Bay Area in light of the fact that Pat will be teaching less often?

We’re grateful that God has brought many gifted teachers to our leadership team. Lead Pastor Greg St. Cyr will preach most of the messages. Pat will preach about half as much as he has to date. Campus Pastor Brian Hopper, Missional Communities Pastor Allen Smith, Student Ministry Pastor Brent Squires and others will share with us as well.

If I want more information about Grace Bomb and how to partner with Pat, how can I find that?

If you would like to be a part of Grace Bomb, you can learn more and give here. Also, Pat will host two informational meetings at the church on Tuesday, July 23 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 28 at 12:45 p.m. in the Chapel.

How can we be praying for Pat and Grace Bomb during this transition?

Pat and his family would appreciate prayer for opportunities to equip more people and churches to spread the gospel through Grace Bomb; for God’s financial provision for this new ministry; and that God would open doors for the Grace Bomb book to be published and put in the hands of church leaders around the world.
