The Family Legacy Map is a visual representation of Bay Area's family ministry strategy, which focuses on seven life stages that every family will encounter from cradle to college. It encourages parents to take the lead as primary disciple makers. The map stresses the role of the church as the equippers for parents who celebrate with the family as they progress through each life stage.
THE 7 STAGES OF THE FAMILY MAP
0-3 PARENT DEDICATION
During the Parent Dedication life stage, parents will commit to making the decision to raise their child to have a relationship with Jesus. They will intentionally fight for their child’s heart and disciple their child to know and grow in Christ.
Parent Dedication Event
4-8 PROFESSION OF FAITH
During the Profession of Faith life stage, parents will focus on providing unconditional love and acceptance through Blessings. They will lead (with the church’s partnership) their child to accepting Jesus as their Savior and explain to them the purposes of communion and baptism.
Family Blessing Event
8-11 IDENTITY IN CHRIST
During the Identity in Christ life stage, parents will focus on helping their child know who they are and whose they are. Their main focus will be emphasizing faith skills to last a lifetime.
Fourth & Fifth Grade Retreat
11-14 PURITY FOR LIFE
During the Purity for Life stage, we want to equip parents to have important conversations about sex, dating, technology and social media with their child and create open dialogue within their family as their children grow up and mature.
14-17 PASSAGE TO ADULTHOOD
During the Passage to Adulthood life stage, parents will commit to being intentional about having conversations that help point their high schooler toward Jesus, as well as toward mental, emotional and relational maturity.
17-18 HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
During the High School Graduation life stage, we hope to finish the Family Legacy Map strong by preparing your child for the struggles of being a believer not only at university, but also in the real world. From encountering different worldviews to dating and relationships to managing finances, your child is about to be given his or her first real taste of adulthood. Let’s help them build a strong foundation in Christ so they can succeed in college and beyond.
18+ LIFETIME IN CHRIST
The Lifetime in Christ life stage is often when students leave home and establish their own identity outside of their family of origin. With the influence of the previous six stages, students will have the foundation they need in Christ to flourish in their next life stage.
