THE DISCIPLESHIP PATHWAY

SPIRITUAL SELF ASSESSMENT

"Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? — unless indeed you fail to meet the test!"

2 Corinthians 13:5

For the last year or so we have been sensing a need to help our church family take intentional steps to continue to grow as passionate maturing followers of Jesus.  It is the maturing part of our mission statement that we are wanting to elevate for each follower of Jesus.

Here at Bay Area, according to Matthew 4:19, we define a disciple as someone who follows Jesus, is changed by Jesus, and is on mission with Jesus. Not only does Jesus extend an invitation to follow Him, but He also wants to change us to be like Him. This should motivate us to continually be working towards growing and learning from Jesus so that we can be become like Him.

We have found that many believers take small incremental steps of growth, often times because they have no real direction or path to follow. Most believers know they should read their Bibles, go to church and pray, but beyond that, very few of us know exactly what we should do to continue growing in our Christlikeness. And we think this is a problem.

The heart behind this assessment is to help each person identify where they are in their spiritual life stage and determine what their “next step” is on the path to being a passionate maturing follower of Jesus. Admittedly, we know any assessment or pathway will fall short of capturing every aspect of our spiritual growth journey. There can never be a “one-way” to grow spiritually, but there are certain basics that all of us should experience at each stage of our spiritual development.

This self assessment is designed to help you discern where you stand in five key areas in the life of a disciple: worship, community, service, generosity, and mission. As we grow in these areas, we become more like Christ. Use this tool as a way for you to assess your next step in your spiritual journey.

Remember, there are no right or wrong answers - only true answers. This is not a competition or an exam, but simply a tool to help you assess how you are doing on your spiritual journey. These results will not be shared with anyone unless you choose to do so. Please try not to “over-rate” or “under-rate” yourself. An honest appraisal is what will help you the most.
