Bay Area Community Church Facility Design—The Meaning Behind It

Two great Biblical themes have been woven into the architecture of Bay Area Community Church’s facility — living worship & living water. The Apostle John records visions of Heaven that God gave him. The first things he saw were seven lampstands and Jesus standing in the midst of them (Revelation 1:12-14). As you approach the front of building, you pass seven lighted bollards, symbolizing the lampstands, with a large tree in the middle, representing Jesus.

As John’s visions continue, he finds himself gazing at the throne of God across what looks like a sea of glass (Rev. 4:1-6, 10-11). After you enter through the glass doors on your way to the auditorium, you step onto a sand patterned carpet resembling seashore. Then you step onto the blue carpet—symbolizing stepping into the water. This design and the blue wavy wall above your head was fashioned to remind you that Jesus is the Living Water and He wants to wash over you (John 7:37-39). On the wall outside the auditorium, the glass art proclaims, “The knowledge of the glory of the Lord will cover the earth, as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14)

Our hope and prayer is that the architecture of this building draws you closer to Jesus, the Living Water, as you worship Him.
